BECOME AN INTERACT ARTIST
Interact welcomes new Client/Artists year-round!
For fifteen years Interact Center has been a leader in integrating the arts and social services, creating a space where people with disabilities come to unleash their creativity and build their talents through the daily practice of theater and visual arts.
Interact Center is a licensed adult day program that offers a wide spectrum of professional arts programming, including a season of gallery exhibitions and theatrical performances that attract eager audiences, and that give artists an opportunity to earn income from their work. Artists range in age from 18 to 94; represent African-, Native-, Asian- and European-American backgrounds; and bring the entire gamut of disability labels into our creative mix.
Our mission to create art that challenges perceptions of disability means that we focus on the possibilities, and not the disabilities. This means that you don’t have to be an accomplished artist to be part of Interact – you don’t have to audition or come with a folder full of drawings. What we do look for is motivation, and the desire to grow your skills and work in a creative environment.
This also means that your artistic goals come first – Interact is about what you can do, and where you want to go with your life. Artists at Interact continually learn and grow in areas such as improvisation, painting, dance, sculpture, music, acting, creative writing, ceramics and many other programs that fit your own artistic aspirations.
Staff members at Interact are all professional, working artists who teach and mentor in ways that maximize your artistic growth. And all staff are trained to provide services and support to meet your own health and safety needs.
Interact programs flourish in an environment of radical inclusion: an environment in which artists with and without disabilities work side-by-side to create the most exciting, most rewarding work possible. We invite professional artists from the community into our work as fellow performers, workshop facilitators, teachers and mentors. And we create opportunities for Interact artists to move beyond our own theater and studio programs as collaborators in the broader arts environment.
Interact is a full time, five-day-a-week program, with programming from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. To be sure you’re getting the most out of your artistic experience, we ask for a minimum attendance commitment of three days per week.
