MISSION

Interact Creates Art that Challenges Perceptions of Disability

In all of our work, Interact:

Creates art in a spirit of radical inclusion;
Inspires artists and audiences to explore the full spectrum of human potential;
Transforms lives by expanding ideas of what is possible.

VISION

At Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts,

We push the boundaries of traditional art forms by including the unique perceptions of people who have not been part of creating the artistic vocabulary,
We expand the meaning of "accessibility" well beyond physical structures for artists with disabilities to playing an active role in the creative process
And we midwife into the world potent and powerful visions that would otherwise have been lost.

We know that the experience of playing a creative role as part of a community improves the well-being of all the participants. We know that sharing in the audience's appreciation of the work has a healing and integrating effect on Interact's artists as well as on the participating professional artists. We also know that the experience of witnessing the art and seeing the personal transformation that takes place in the lives of the artists expands the audience's ideas about human potential and creativity.

Our vision for Interact Center's future is based on this knowledge. It is our hope that Interact will be a force in sharing this knowledge and that this knowledge, with its attendant increase in human understanding and compassion, will reverberate outward in concentric circles around the globe.

Through careful planning and passion for our mission, all of us together – the board of directors, staff, and community of artists – guide Interact’s work. We envision a world in which an expanded understanding of human creativity inspires both artists and audiences to see themselves as persons with possibilities, not disabilities. We envision a world in which the radical inclusion of the stories, dreams and ideas of all peoples is a force for healing, personal transformation, and universal well-being.
