David Bauman began at Interact as an actor and dancer, involved with the organization from its beginning. An enthusiastic creator, David spends his time in the Visual Arts department, making strong contributions. He has a fascination with and a feel for animals, particularly big cats and exotic sea life. His uncanny interpretations of animal movement, when performing, are echoed in his sensitivity for artistic depiction of wildlife.
David has a unique talent for painting and drawing, creating exquisite line drawings of animals and landscapes he has seen in his travels. Largely self-taught, his interest in zoology is evident in his eye for detail and the wealth of scientific facts he commits to memory. Recent trips to Hawaii, Florida's Universal Studios and the Underwater World at the Mall of America have been especially influential.
Born with Down Syndrome, David's verbal skills are limited, but this is barely relevent when he stands in the spotlight – he easily communicates through his talents. He is a natural comedian, an artist and performer since youth. Light-hearted yet perceptive, he’s known for his sense of humor and his affectionate nature. He is an intense person, devoting patient and meticulous attention to his interests. His affinity for animals is as old as he – they love him and he loves them.
In addition to his incredible artistry David is very involved with and successful in the Special Olympics. He has received multiple awards and medals, most recently for his prowess in Power Lifting. After years of work for the Lutheran Brotherhood organization, David needed a change – he joined long-time friends Eric Wheeler and Eric Sherarts at Interact Center. Since then, David Bauman has taken his place as one of our best and brightest.
David’s work is currently featured in WonderWorld at the Inside Out Gallery, as well at Dots and Loops at Midway Contemporary Art.
