The Visual Arts Program

Formally trained artists offer instruction and advocacy for the Interact Visual Arts program. The studio accommodates up to 40 artists, who work independently in their chosen medium of painting, drawing, sculpture, clay or textile. Weekly seminars are offered in such areas as life drawing, mosaic, watercolor technique and art history, and studio artists make visits to museums, galleries or artist studios.
All artists have opportunities to exhibit work in shows curated by the gallery director at the Inside Out Gallery, located in Interact’s facility in the historic warehouse district of Minneapolis. Artists receive a commission for the sale of their work. Interact also seeks alternative venues for both group and individual exhibitions, and artists are alerted to outside calls for entries to show or sell work. Many Interact artists have had great success exhibiting work and procuring outside commissions.

EAT ART and MUD: The Art of Coffee
July 29 through September 15
Opening reception July 29, 6-9pm
With live music from The Minneapolis Vegetable Orchestra. The evening is free and open to the public and will also feature original artwork, one-of-a-kind handmade gifts, and generously provided delicious locally crafted treats from The Wedge and coffee from Peace Coffee.

Food and art are essential to sustaining life and feeding the soul, and the depiction of food in art has a long tradition. EAT ART honors this glorious season of farmer’s markets and community gardens. Interact artists have been inspired by food to create natural dyes, sculptures and paintings. Through a unique partnership and generous donations by the Wedge Coop and The Coop Partners Warehouse, Interact Studio was able to use past-date produce for the project.

In MUD: the Art of Coffee, Interact artists celebrate the beverage in all its forms and witness its mighty power. The exhibition includes a broad range of media; from delicate watercolors created with coffee as a natural ink, to papers made with coffee grounds. Exhibit sponsor Peace Coffee generously provided both coffee and a tour of their facility in support of the project.

Interact Artists on Exhibit in the Community

The artists in Interact’s visual arts program often show their work at venues in the community. These exhibitions both broaden Interact’s audience and give the artists more opportunities to challenge society’s view of disability. More.
